Abstract:Objective To analyze expression of TGF-β 1 and β-catenin in colon polyps of children and potential clinical significance. Methods Expression of TGF-β 1 and β-catenin protein in colon polyps of children was detected by immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR. Potential correlations between TGF-β 1 and β-catenin were analyzed. Results The positive expression rates of TGF-β 1 protein in children with single and multiple juvenile polyps were 27.59% and 48.28%, respectively. Positive expression rates of β-catenin in children with single and multiple juvenile polyps were 13.79% and 41.38%, respectively. TGF-β 1 was positively correlated with β-catenin (r = 0.634, P < 0.01). Expression levels of TGF-β 1 and β-catenin in multiple juvenile polyp tissue were significantly higher than those in the normal tissue (P < 0.05). Conclusions TGF-β 1 and β-catenin are involved in the development and progression of colon polyps in children.
