Abstract:To study the level sofinterleukin-37 (IL-37),interleukin -6 (IL-6),interleukin-18 (IL-18) and interferon-γ(IFN -γ) in serum and peripheral blood mononuclear cells of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE),and to investigate the relationships ofIL-37 expression with othercytokines in the patients. Methods From December2012 to December2015,32 patientswith SLE in the Department of Rheumatology, the First Hospital of Jilin University were selected into SLE group, and 32 normalhealthy people in the Medical Examination Centerwere selected into controlgroup. The serum levelsofIL-37,IL-6,IL-18 and IFN-γ,and the expressionsofIL-37 mRNA,IL-6 mRNA,IL-18 mRNA and IFN-γ mRNA in the peripheralblood mononuclear cellswere detected in both group.ResultsThe serum levelsofIL-37,IL-6,IL-18 and IFN-γ in the SLE group were significantly higherthan those in the controlgroup( < 0.05).The serum IL-37 waspositively correlated withserum IL-6,IL-18 and IFN-γ in theSLE patients( < 0.05).Multivariateregression analysisshowed thatthelevels ofIL-6,IL-18 and IFN-γ were the influencing factorsforserum IL-37 level( < 0.05).The expressionsofIL-37 mRNA,IL-6 mRNA,IL-18 mRNA and IFN-γ mRNA in the peripheralblood mononuclearcellsofthe SLE group were higher than those of the control group( < 0.05).The IL-37 mRNA expression in the peripheral blood mononuclearcellswaspositivelycorrelated with theexpressionsofIL-6 mRNA,IL-18 mRNA and IFN-γ mRNA in the SLE patients( < 0.05).Multivariate regression analysis showed thatIL-18 mRNA,IL-6 mRNA and IFN-γ mRNA expression levels were the influencing factors for IL -37 mRNA expression in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells( < 0.05).Conclusions The newly discovered inflammatory factor IL-37 is involved in the pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus, and isassociated with IL-6,IL-18 and IFN-γ.
