Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) on the refractive state in their early stage. Methods Twenty-four cases of ROP screening in our hospital in 2015 were randomly selected,at the same time 46 cases from normal preterm were as control group. Mydriatic optometry results at the age of 1 year were compared. Results The incidence of myopia in premature infants, particularly in the ROP infants was significantly higher than that without ROP. The occurrence of myopia in the premature infants was correlated with birth weight. The premature infants with birth weight lower than or equal to 1500 g were more likely to have myopia. Conclusions Both ROP and low birth weight would increase the incidence of myopia, whether they have long-term impact should be further studied.
