Abstract:Objective To detect the expressions of estrogen-related receptor α (ERRα) and ERRβ in colon cancer, evaluate their relationships with the clinicopathological characteristics and discuss the clinical significance. Methods Colon cancer tissues and para-cancerous normal tissues were selected from 63 patients.Western blot was used to detect the expressions of ERRα and ERRβ and their correlations with clinicopathological characteristics were observed. Results ERRα and ERRβ were expressed in the nuclei of the colon cancer tissues and the para-cancerous tissues, high expression was observed in the cancer tissues and low expression was seen in the para-cancerous tissues. The positive expression rates of ERRα and ERRβ in the colon cancer tissues were higher than those in the para-cancerous tissues (P < 0.05). The positive expressions of ERRα and ERRβ proteins were correlated with the deepth of tumor invasion, distant metastasis, blood vessel infiltration, TNM stage and tumor differentiation (P < 0.05). Spearman rank analysis showed the positive expression rates of ERRα and ERRβ proteins were positively correlated (P < 0.05). Conclusions ERRα and ERRβ are highly expressed in colon cancer tissues and correlated with the clinicopathological characteristics of poor prognosis. They may modulate the malignant behavior of colon cancer together.
