Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical effect of Compound Huangbai Solution as an enema in combination with oral administration of Mesalazine in the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC) and its effects on intestinal microflora and serum inflammatory factors. Methods In this study, 120 patients with UC who received therapy in our hospital from January 2014 to December 2014 were selected as research objects. According to random number table, those patients were divided into two groups equally. Besides conventional treatments, the control group was treated with oral administration of Mesalazine, while the observation group was treated with oral administration of Mesalazine and Compound Huangbai Solution as an enema. After six-month follow-up, the curative efficacy was compared between the two groups. And after the course of treatment, the content of intestinal microflora and levels of serum inflammatory factors were compared. During the treatment, the incidence of adverse reactions was observed. Results After the six-month follow-up, the observation group had a total therapeutic rate of 93.3%, which was statistically higher than that of 80.0% in the control group (P < 0.05). After the course of the treatment, the quantities of Enterococcus, Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium in the feces in the observation group were statistically higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05). After the treatment the levels of TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-8 in the observation group were statistically lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05). During the treatment, the incidence of adverse reactions in the observation group and the control group was 10.0% and 15.0% respectively without statistical difference (P > 0.05). Conclusions Compound Huangbai Solution as an enema in combination with oral administration of Mesalazine is effective for UC, which can significantly increase curative efficacy, effectively regulate intestinal microflora and alleviate inflammatory reaction with few adverse reactions.
