Abstract:Objective To investigate the association of NQO1 C609T polymorphism with diabetic retinopathy. Methods Based on the results of direct funduscopy detection, 546 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were divided into 2 groups: diabetic retinopathy (DR) group and non-diabetic retinopathy (NDR) group. NQO1 C609T polymorphism was genotyped by PCR conformation-difference gel electrophoresis (PCR-CDGE). Results The frequencies of genotype CC, CT and TT at NQO1 C609T polymorphism in DR group and NDR group were 29.7%, 53.2%, 17.1% and 28.1%, 51.8%, 20.1%, respectively. No significant difference in genotype between DR group and NDR group was found (c2 = 0.678, P = 0.713). Conclusions NQO1 C609T polymorphism may not associated with diabetic retinopathy patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Jiangxi Han nationality.
