Abstract:Objective To compare the effectiveness of self-made sharp teeth hook plate with the traditional method for treatment of avulsion fractures. Methods A retrospective analysis was carried out in 47 cases with avulsion fractures treated with open reduction and internal fixation. The 17 cases using self-made sharp teeth hook plate were enrolled into test group, and the 30 cases treated with traditional methods into control group. The operation time, intraoperative bleeding, time of fracture healing, complications and limb function recovery were compared. Results All were followed up for 12-24 months with the mean of 18.1 months. The operation time and intraoperative bleeding were not significantly different between the two groups (P > 0.05). The complications in the test group were fewer than those in the control group, the differences in the complications and healing time of fractures were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The excellent and good rate in the test group was higher than that in the control group, but the difference was not statistically significant (P > 0.05). Conclusions The self-made sharp teeth hook plate for treatment of avulsion fractures has the advantages of simplicity, wide indications, reliable fixation and satisfied effectiveness.
