Abstract:Objective To analyze the influence of different inlay restoration materials on the flexural strength of chairside computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) restoration for large-area defects of posterior teeth.Methods In this study, 40 patients with large posterior tooth defects admitted to the Eighth Affiliated Hospital of Southern Medical University from December 2023 to June 2024 were selected. All of them were restored with inset by chairside CAD/CAM system and divided into group A (n = 20, IPS e.max.CAD ceramic) and group B (n = 20, 3M Lava? Ultimate resin nano-ceramic) according to the random number table method. The restoration effects, tooth fractures and restoration detachment of the two groups were evaluated 12 months after restoration.Results Twelve months after restoration, there was no statistically significant difference in marginal fit between group A and group B (P 0.05). Additionally, no statistically significant differences were observed in marginal fit between the 12-month post-restoration assessment and the immediate post-bonding baseline within either group A or group B (P 0.05). Significant differences were observed between group A and group B in both the non-fracture rate and the non-discoloration rate: the non-fracture rate was higher in group B than in group A, while the non-discoloration rate was lower in group B than in group A. During the follow-up period, no tooth fractures occurred in either group. Restoration detachment occurred in 2 cases (10.00%) in group A, while no restoration detachment was observed in group B.Conclusion Compared with IPS e.max CAD repair materials, 3M LavaTM Ultimate repair materials have better flexural strength and a lower flexural rate of the repaired body. The color matching degree of IPS e.max CAD repair materials is better. And the edge fit of the two is not much different.
